It is important to
realise that women from
minority ethnic groups, for whom English is not their first language,
may find it more difficult to disclose domestic violence. This may be due
to a range of cultural differences which prevents a woman seeking help and
also the language barrier faced when accessing support services. Women’s
Aid has produced a range of leaflets in
Urdu,
Arabic,
Chinese,
Hindi and
Portuguese and the 24-hour
helpline now has access to translators through a language line.
